How to Prepare Your Garden for Spring

Spring is officially on our doorstep! The sky is blue, temperatures have finally hit the teens and the days are getting longer. This means that it’s time to start preparing your outdoor space in time for our favourite season of the year. Take a look at some of our garden ideas for spring.

Add Colour with Flowers

When you think of springtime, you imagine colourful landscapes, beautiful parks and vibrant floral displays. This is something you can emulate in your own garden with flowers, whether they’re real or artificial.

The first thing to consider is what colours are ‘in’ this season. 2019 is all about optimism and being bold, which is why warm colours such as reddy-oranges, zesty greens and sunny yellows are the focus this spring.

If you didn’t plant any seeds in your garden during winter, then don’t worry! You can still bring some of these vibrant colours into your garden by purchasing flowering bulbs from your local garden centre. We recommend marigolds as they flower all year round, as well as chaenomeles and pasque flowers which bloom in early-spring and late-spring respectively.

Declutter

Spring is known for being the season of rebirth and renewal, and decluttering is definitely a good first step if you’re revitalising your garden space. It’s time to cut back the hedges, remove any dead leaves, twigs or weeds that might have built up over winter and give your patio a good clean.

If you have a garage, shed or greenhouse, it might be worth sorting through those too. By removing dusty cobwebs, rusty tools and unwanted items that have probably been sitting there for years, you can instantly free up some space and make those areas look as good as new.

Create a Focal Point

A circle feature would be the perfect spring addition to your garden. Once you’ve decluttered, it would add some much-needed detail and warmth to your outdoor space. It could also be the ideal accompaniment to a bird feeder or fountain.

We recommend the Bradstone Old Town Weathered Limestone Circle Feature, a two-ring circle that boasts beautiful cream and buff tones. The circle feature would complement the bright, vibrant colours that we mentioned earlier, and would look great in either a small or large space.
